the kid is too smart for me. he is quick to come back with a response to what.ever.it.is. sometimes its funny. sometimes annoying.
at swim lessons he tells me he needs to take a break because "the water is extremely cold."
"extremely?" really? when did you start talking like an adult?
then at dinner he said, "mom, i simply can't eat all this."
i made something new for dinner the other night...here's what i got:
jack: mom what is this?
me: oh, it's kinda like a taco bake or something like that.
jack: i don't like it.
me: you've never tried it. so eat.
jack: yeah, i have to tried it. daddy made it before and i didn't like it then.
me: daddy nate has never made this. but nice try, buddy. eat.
jack: no, not daddy nate. my daddy in heaven. he made it. you weren't there so you don't know. see i told you i've tried it. i don't like it.
me: well, you're going to like it tonight.
a little bit later i get a "mom, can i have some more? it's good."
jack's been a bit of a stink pot lately. i know it's because he's jealous of sammy. he loves her to pieces. but hates when i'm holding her. anyway, last night we were snuggling and he was being a stinker and saying things that he thinks are funny but really aren't nice. so, we had a little chat.
me: jack, did you know that our time on earth is one big test?
jack: what do you mean?
me: well, we need to take everything we learned in heaven and use it here on earth?
jack: what kind of things did we learn in heaven, mommy?
me: how to be nice. how to make right choices. love one another.
jack: wow, what a shame...i didn't learn anything in heaven.
at that point i just had my face buried in the pillow.
